Wasp Nest Removal Grappenhall

Grappenhall is really three places, and each one produces its own sort of wasp problem. There is the old village core around Church Lane — cobbles you are not allowed to park on, the sandstone bulk of St Wilfrid’s, two pubs and a cricket ground sitting hard against the Bridgewater Canal. There is the Edwardian ribbon along Grappenhall Road and out towards Knutsford Road. And there are the newer estates at Grappenhall Heys and the lanes running east to Thelwall. We treat all of it across WA4 for a fixed £60.

Where we find nests in Grappenhall

• Bracketed eaves and soffit boards. The Grappenhall Road conservation area went up between 1896 and 1908, once the Ship Canal and the 1905 tramway brought the land within commuting reach. Those villas are uniform in scale but individual in detailing, and nearly all of them carry deep overhanging eaves on timber brackets with painted softwood soffits behind. A hundred and twenty summers of movement opens a few millimetres at the board joints, and a queen needs no more than that.
• Roof voids entered at the verge. On the same houses, the point where the gable verge meets the eaves is usually the weakest seal on the whole roofline. Wasps get in there and build in the void above the bedroom ceiling.
• Canal bank and towpath hedging. The stretch of towpath from Stanney Lunt bridge along towards Thelwall is dry, south-facing embankment full of old rodent burrows. Common wasps take those over readily, and gardens backing onto it get the traffic without holding the nest.
• Garages and garden rooms at Grappenhall Heys. The later housing brings a different pattern: nests behind fascia trim, in flat-roof garage overhangs, and inside the timber garden offices that everyone stopped using over winter.
• Sandstone walls and village outbuildings. Round Church Lane the old boundary walls and lean-to stores have loose mortar joints and lifted slates, which suit a nest as well as any roof.
• Conifer and beech hedging on Broad Lane. Aerial nests here usually get found by someone with a hedge trimmer in August, which is the worst possible way to find one.

Reading an Edwardian roofline

The reason we ask what your house looks like before we quote is that the answer tells us where to point the pole. On a bracketed Edwardian eaves detail the wasps almost never enter where you see them hovering — they run along behind the soffit and come out at a joint several metres away. Treating the visible spot achieves nothing. We watch the flight line for a minute or two, find the real entry, and treat that. It takes longer to explain than to do.

One fee, nothing added

£60 covers a wasp or hornet nest, whatever its size and wherever it sits on the property. Hornets belong to the same family as wasps and take the same treatment, so the figure does not move for them. Bumblebee nests are £70. Nothing is added for height, access equipment, evenings or weekends, and if the colony is still flying a few days later we return and treat again for nothing. We do not treat honeybees. If what you have is a honeybee swarm, we will identify it as such and say so, and a local beekeeper may collect it.
